Nowadays our life isn’t safe. To start with, crimes have been a growing problem all over the world in the last 30 years. It seems that neither police, nor government can guarantee public safety. Therefore statistics shows that crimes have been increased at present. So no one can live in peace and feel save in his own home. This situation in Lithuania is getting hopeless. First of all, crimes involving stealing, like burglaries, shopliftings, pick pocketing are the most popular. Some people go shoplifting just to provide their families. The number of shoplifters is increasing rapidly in Lithuania because of its rather poor economical situation. I believe that the most proper punishment for shoplifters would be a warning the first time they are caught and if they do it again I think a slight fine would be ok. No matter how hard the government or shop owners try to stop shoplifting, there still will be a group of people, who will do it. Secondly, lots of crimes are connected with drugs and under the influence of alcohol. Quit a member of crimes is committed by people being drunk. Some car crimes are not very serious, such as illegal parking, otherwise some are dangerous, such as drunk driving, reckless driving, speeding. Another thing is that there are more and more kidnappers, murders and killers in Lithuania. They commit crimes and succeed in escaping penalties by engaging good lawyers. Some people robbing committing crimes, because of hunger or poverty. But the worst thing is that, when you are poor and can’t afford to have a good solicitor, you can be convicted of murder and imprisoned even being completely innocent. Furthermore a lot of dangerous criminals are allowed to escape and live free. That’s why people are trying to protect themselves more and more: they try to find new ways of protection, supply their private property with modern secure equipment, they even buy weapons, thinking it is an effective measure against crimes and violence.
I don’t believe that criminals who commit crimes of a particularly heinous nature can be reformed in the prison. Sometimes it’s not use in locking for the truth and justice, because there is one law for the rich and another for the poor. To sum everything up I would like to say that we should always search for a better solution to these problems of course take measures, because nobody will do our job for us.
