Introduction:

CAMERON DIAZ is the most luminescent newcomer to silver screen in the 1990’s. At age 21 and only with her modeling experience under the hood, Diaz landed a potentially sky-rocketing role opposite rising superstar comedian Jim Carrey in The Mask. With her foot well in the door of Hollywood films, she was next afforded the chance to kick Hollywood ass in the feature film version of Mortal Kombat. For this role, Diaz would require martial arts training. But luck would send Diaz down a different road after she injured her wrist karate-chopping her trainer’s head. Diaz instead returned to some high-paying modeling jobs and found smaller, low-paying roles in independent films. Cameron states, “I think that definitely your chances of coming across material in independent films–material that is more interesting and more challenging–is more likely than in big-studio films. You always have to leave your doors open to independent films so you have that opportunity.”

The Aim of the Project Work

In the world there are a lot of good, beautiful, clever and talented actors. Some of them are very famous in all over the world, but some are not well known for people. Although they are very good actors like others.

I like a lot of actors. But I have my favourite ones. One of them is Cameron Diaz. One time I saw her in magazine. There she was so beautiful and I began read everything about her. Now I have all kind of stuff about my favourite actress Cameron Diaz! Some other actors that I like very much are Jenifer Aniston, Brad Pitt…But when I get a task ( to do a project about one of favourite actors) I decide to write about Cameron Diaz, not about for example jenifer aniston. I do not know why, maybe I like her more then others actors. Because I wante to know something new about this actress. I think that it will be good for my teacher and my classfriends because they will scent out o lot of interesting things about Cameron Diaz. Being not so famous like Jenifer Aniston or Bradd Pitt. I’m very happy that I decided to write about her!

Cameron Diaz

Who’s Cameron Diaz? So how did this “wonder” come to grace the planet Earth? The facts go like this: Daughter of a Cuban-American father and German-native American mother, Cameron was born some 25 (on August 30 1972) years ago and grew up in Long Beach, California. (She says her father planned on naming her Menachem El Genio or Seb Emilo, but gave up the plan when he realized he had a baby girl on his hands.) Needless to say, she was a cute kid and an even cuter teenager. It wasn’t until she was the ripe old age of 16, however, before she was plucked from a Hollywood party and firmly planted on the road to fame. She started as a successful fashion model when she was 16. Having a contract with the Elite Modeling Agency, she posed for such magazines

as Mademoiselle and Seventeen, and appeared in ads for Calvin Klein, Levi’s, and Coca-Cola. But after 6 years she changed to an actress when she discovered that acting was even more fun than traveling, well paid around the world.

Career Her patience and discipline in her acting career shows how Cameron had matured through her modeling career. Diaz was sixteen at the time, and she happened to be at the right place at the right time… at a Hollywood party! There she hooked up with a photographer who, within a week, helped her land a modeling contract with the Elite Modeling Agency. She talked her father (a Cuban-American foreman) and her mother (a German, Native American, and English broker) into letting her expand her career in Japan, accompanied only by another fifteen-year-old fellow model. Her parents were rather easy-going, taking their head-banging party-going kid everywhere. “I was a tough kid with the jeans, the concert shirt with the flannel over it, the comb in the back pocket and the feathered hair.” Her mother even accompanied her to first Van Halen concert. So in the end, Cameron was off to Japan. Diaz advises, “Believe me, you can get into a lot of trouble being sixteen years old in a foreign country with no adult telling you when to come home.” So the next five years were spent traveling from continent to continent, country to country. “Australia, Morocco, Paris, Mexico, here, there, everywhere,” before settling in her Hollywood apartment with Carlos de La Torre, a video producer and her companion for five years.

Posing for Mademoiselle and Seventeen and appearing in ads for Calvin Klein, Levi’s, and Coca Cola is no small accomplishment for a 21-year-old woman. Just barely a woman, Cameron felt modeling angst. There was more to her life, and she knew it. As a suggestion from her agent, Diaz tried going down the well-traveled road of modeling to acting. Who would believe after twelve auditions, this fresh actress–born from modeling–would land a small role in Jim Carrey’s film, The Mask? Cameron wanted in, and she had the perfect opportunity. “Anything the filmmakers wanted, I would do. But it got to the point where I said, ‘You know what? I’m not doing it anymore. I’m not gonna go practice with the choreographer so that he knows the steps he’s gonna teach the real girl who gets the job.'” Director Charles Russell caught wind of Cameron’s feelings and went to the producers at New Line Cinema, and convinced them to award her the female lead. At the time, Cameron didn’t fully understand the scope of what she was getting into. “This is kind of a big film, isn’t it?” Diaz asked a month into production. Yes, it was! She got ulcer. Cameron then realized the heavy weight on her shoulders, the responsibility for the success of the film

The studios weren’t too confident or keen in hiring Cameron after the ulcer during Mask production and her injury during Kombat pre-production. So Diaz trotted down the road of independent films, scoring several roles. She played a character named Jude in The Last Supper (1995), directed by Stacy Title. “I did the Last Supper simply to get the opportunity to work with other actors. I never had any other experience acting other than The Mask.” It was during this year (1995) that Cameron ended her longstanding, 5-year relationship with Carlos de La Torre. In Feeling Minnesota (1996), she runs off with her brother-in-law (Keanu Reeves). In She’s the One (1996), Cameron sleeps with bros. Ed Burns and Mike McGlone. Strangely, many of Cameron’s acting roles involved playing vulnerable females, often tied-up; Cameron also displays her well-shaped body in these movies with swimsuits and several swimming scenes. As the wife of a prominent judge (Harvey Keitel) more than twice her age, she finds herself in a terrible mess after discovering a dead body in Head Above Water (1996). That same year, Cameron was named the N.A.T.O./ShowWest Female Star of Tomorrow by the National Association of Theater Owners. She now had several films under her belt, award recognition, and a small following of fans.Returning to the big-studio films, Cameron’s task was to star side-by-side with Hollywood cutie Julia Roberts who was also making somewhat of a return in My Best Friend’s Wedding. The summer romantic comedy scored well among critics, not to mention Cameron’s performance aside Julia. Cameron then went on to A Live Less Ordinary by Danny Boyle with kidnapper Ewan McGregor. Cameron recently starred in the Faralley brothers’ There’s Something About Mary with her ex-beau and costar Matt Dillon. This box-office smash earned Cameron her biggest Hollywood boost yet. She followed her comedy shasher with an independent film Very Bad Things (1998) as Laura Garrety. Cameron Diaz’s upcoming films include Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998) as a blonde TV reporter, and On Any given Sunday (1999).
Shrek (2000) (voice)

Her first stint in the glamour industry involved working the runways as an Elite model, during which time she earned a “comfortable, if not hugely successful living” (poor thing probably made under seven figures). Some five years later, the rocket ship took off when she landed the part of Tina Carlyle in The Mask. The movie sent Jim Carrey’s eyes popping out of their sockets, while many members of the audience experienced a similar phenomenon, albeit one related with a body part situated a good deal lower on the anatomy.

Mask, as we all know was a phenomenal success, as was My Best Friend’s Wedding (1997), in which Cameron, in the role of crowd-shy Kimi, managed to steal Julia Roberts’ one true love – an accomplishment that would have been unthinkable if not for the fact that Diaz is so incredibly stunning she could probably steal the moon from the sky should she so desire.

At this point Cameron’s acting skills and breathtaking beauty has been well recognized by the press and public alike. Film critic Rogert Ebert has given her a solid thumbs up, labeling her “a genuine sex bomb with a gorgeous face” (Roger doesn’t get the big bucks for nothing.)

Instead of earlier reports on this page, Bill Murray does play Charlie in the new Columbia Pictures movie Charlie’s Angels. And as proven in many other movies, no movie can not be funny without this former Saturdaynight Live comedy-star. The Angels Cameron Diaz, Lucy Alexis Liu and Drew Barrymore are ready to crime-fight international espionage using intelligent disguises, powerful schemes and their famous high-kicks. I saw it all happen in a fantastic trailer on apple.com. I sincerely advise you to check it out. I also found a teaser. Now all we have to wait for is the movie itself.

Her projects On Any Given Sunday (1999) There’s Something About Mary (1998)Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998)Being John Malkovich (1998) Very Bad Things (1998)Life Less Ordinary, A (1997)My Best Friend’s Wedding (1997)Keys to Tulsa (1997)Head Above Water (1996)Feeling Minnesota (1996)She’s the One (1996)Last Supper, The (1995)Mask, The (1994)Vanilla Sky (2001)

Leisure time Party time. Cameron loves to party. Going out, dancing and laughing is what she likes most to do with her boy friend Jared Leto. She has a mind of her own and does not hesitate to speak it. For Cameron exciting means car racing at 100 m/h. And for the sex: “real loud music and plenty of action… I don’t like soft”. Cameron Diaz must be a cheap date. She loves French fries and Egg McMuffins, and is a self-confessed “burger whore.” One can’t help but wonder, however, after witnessing her exquisite five-foot-nine frame, if she isn’t being a tad disingenuous. Although she claims to flinch at the mention of the word “salad,” I suspect there’s probably a decent flow of health food being pumped into the immaculate wonder that is Cameron Diaz. Love It is said that she’s a real heartbreaker. She’s now dating Jared Leto (actor). Her last relationship with Matt Dillon lasted for two years. As far as we know, Cameron broke up because Matt was foolin’ around with Mariah Carey. Altough they looked very happy at the start, now Cameron wishes she never met him. Before Dillon there was video producer Carlos de La Torre; their relationship held strong for five years.Further more my resources do tell me that she is really beautiful even without the make-up, but that she also has a very weird laugh. It seems to be a mixture between Beavis&Butthead and a air-raid-alarm… About her beauty she claims that her mother and two of her friends are more prettier than she (how modest). And what about drugs? She’s very liberal on this subject: “It’s all a matter of personal choice and everybody reacts different on it. I haven’t tried everything and I would never start with heroine, but a good joint or XTC-pill can’t hurt.” (VARA Magazine 1997/43)

Extraordinary facts More extraordinary facts: She hates Mariah Carey music (probably even more after the Dillon-affair…) and finds her self lazy enough to stay in bed all day. She almost died of alcohol-poisoning in Australia when she was a model and she loves Japan. So far she hasn’t shown any affection for a singing career (thank God, after you’ve seen “My best friends wedding”). Since “She’s the one” she started to change her long blond hair to a more 90s short haircut. Now she had it grow again, but this time she dyed it brown. She also wears more wigs (like in Being John Malkovich) and hairpieces, which makes her apear differently on almost every occasion. I heard that her nose was broken once and that’s why she looks so sexy. Knowing Cameron was a punk rocker as a teen who got into fights, this could be true. After The Mask Cameron did an audition for Mortal Kombat. She got the job but had to stop after she broke her wrist at the karate practices. She then focused on independent films: “I think that definitely your chances of coming across material in independent films—material that is more interesting and more challenging—is more likely than in big-studio films. You always have to leave your doors open to independent films so you have that opportunity.”So what’s my conclusion? I think she has a strong personality and an independent mind, which is good. She’s also a great actress and she is the most beauteous woman I know.

Did you know:* E! Online listed her on their “The Sizzlin’ 16 of 1998”.* People listed her as one of the 50 most beautiful people.

Interwiew With Cameron What’s your character, Laura like in Very Bad Things?

“Well, Laura is this organised beauty queen who’s more into the romance of getting married and the white dress than she is into spending her life with her partner,” explains Cameron. “She becomes a bit neurotic and she’s determined that nothing will spoil her big day. But unpredictable events kind of get in the way.” Cameron adds, “It’s a very comical movie.”

We see you in low-cut dresses when you’re photographed at posh functions. What kind of outfits do you enjoy wearing?

“Everything I wear tends to revolve around my breasts! It’s not because I’m trying to be sexy, but because I find wearing a bra extremely uncomfortable. Basically, I like to wear lots of short skirts that show off my stomach. Or little baby-doll dresses that are open at the top and super short at the bottom. The time that I really max out my credit cards is when I shop at Versace and Giorgio Armani. I also have to confess to a serious shoe fetish.” Cameron laughs, “Come on, a girl can never have too many sandals!”

Which side of the family do you get your fantastic looks from?

“My dad is Cuban and my mum is half German and half English. I’m a real mixture, I guess.”

What beauty products do you buy?

“I tend to buy dozens of creams which I’ve probably only dipped my finger in once. There are about 20 different gels and creams for night-time in my bathroom cabinet at the moment. My skin is very sensitive and I have a serious pimple problem, which Is why I’ve tried so many brands of cream.”

Do you go to the gym?

“I haven’t set foot inside a gym for three years. It’s disgusting, I know, and it’ll catch up with me one day. I have begun to notice a change in my body – the firmness in my thighs is slipping. I get enough exercise from wearing high heels. It’s great for your calves.”

Do you watch what you eat?

“I was this completely skinny child,” explains Cameron. “My best friend’s mother thought I was poor and my family couldn’t afford to feed me! I eat all the forbidden foods such as beef and greasy fries. I’m a cheeseburger junkie. I’m a salty, greasy girl. I think it’s only right to give every French fry a fair chance.”

What do you like to do when you have time off?

“I wake up when I want to, take a shower when I want, leave the house when I want and see whoever I want to. It’s kinda nice,” she smiles. Are you now making a conscious decision not to play the beautiful object-of-desire roles? “A lot of the films that I’ve made have been slightly on the edge, you know. But I tend not to like the predictable babe roles. My character in ‘There’s Something About Mary’ was unique because, although she was perceived to be this goddess of a creature, she totally made fun of herself.”

Did you have any qualms about making a fool of yourself with the hair gel scene in ‘There’s Something About Mary’?

“Yeah,” laughs Cameron. “I actually talked to the producers a couple of times about it because I felt that the particular scene might take away Mary’s credibility and make her look like an idiot. I told them: ‘You know, you guys want Mary to be a babe, right? You guys are always talking about Mary having to look good. Well, I don’t care who you are, any girl who looks like that has to glance in the mirror every once in a while to check her lipstick and so she wouldn’t allow her hair to stick up like that for one second!’ Mary was a pretty cool girl, you know.”

So how did the producers persuade you to act out the scene?

“They made funny noises and laughed in my face!” explained Cameron. “They said: ‘What are you talking about? This is gonna be the funniest thing anybody has ever seen. Just do it!’ So that was that. We actually did shoot the scene twice – we did another take with her hair looking normal – but they were right. The scene was hilarious and it worked a treat.” Cameron adds, “That’s the last time I open my big mouth!”

Cameron started with her ex-boyfriend actor Matt Dillon in ‘There’s Something About Mary’. It must be strange for you to deal with all the press interest about your break-up.

“Yeah, but you know, I’d prefer it if we didn’t go there,” says Cameron plainly. “I don’t have a television so I don’t see any of the stuff you’re talking about. It’s not a subject that’s open for discussion.”

What’s your next project?

“I may be doing a movie with Meryl Streep. That’d be great if it came off. It’s supposed to be a remake of ‘All About Eve’.” Cameron adds, “I can’t wait to meet her.”

Is fame all it’s cracked up to be?

“Hell, no!” replies Cameron. “There really is nothing great about being a celebrity. Okay, so I get the best tables in restaurants, but I don’t want that kind of attention. I hate it when people stare at me. It’s unnatural and unnerving.”

Is it difficult to walk down the street?

“At the moment my brown hair helps. It’s funny how a different hair colour gets a totally different reaction. I’m naturally a blonde but I went brown for my role in “Being John Malkovish”, which I’m filming at the moment in LA.”

Do blondes have more fun?

Cameron laughs. “I don’t know about that. Personally I’m having just as much fun, if not more, as a brunette!”

You only have to look at one of her movies to know that, from her breakthrough role as the curvaceous, pouting blonde bombshell in The Mask to her role as the curvaceous, pouting blonde bombshell in She’s The One and, more recently, as the curvaceous, pouting blonde bombshell in this year’s My Best Friend’s Wedding, (and in the flesh, I’m happy to report) Cameron Diaz is indeed a curvaceous, pouting blonde bombshell. I think that if you red everything about Cameron Diaz you will be happy when you will able to see her films, which are very famous and interesting!
