Problems of the Planet

No human being can stand apart from the environment because each of us is a part of a natural world. We all depend upon our environment and our environment is depending upon us. Our survival and survival of the future generations depend upon a healthy world. One of the major problems is the destruction of the rainforests. Traditionally there are three major causes of it: farming, ranching, and logging. Farmers in rainforest countries are often poor and can’t afford to buy land. Instead, these farmers clear rainforest land to grow their crops. Because tropical rainforest soil is so poor in nutrients, farmers cannot reuse the same land year after year. In following years, farmers just clear more land, destroying the forest piece by piece.

Ranching also causes destruction of the rainforests. Ranchers clear large areas of rainforest to become pastures for their cattle. This land does not cost them very much, so they can sell cattle at low prices. Because it is very profitable, ranchers continue to clear rainforest land so they can raise and sell more cattle.

The third major traditional reason for destruction of the rainforests is logging. Trees from the rainforest are used for building houses, making furniture, and providing pulp for paper products, such as newspapers and magazines. Rainforest that was chopped down can grow back over time, but they will never have the same variety of plants and animals they once did. Another big problem is water pollution. It is something we should be concerned about because it’s a form of pollution that is ruining many lakes, streams, rivers, and ponds.

Polluting the water is unfortunately a very simple process. As the item goes down the drain it gets dumped into the waterways. That’s how easy it is to pollute the earth’s water.

Certain human-made items cause water pollution. These items include soaps, detergents, cleaning sprays, some mouthwashes, and many other things.Water pollution is also caused when people throw trash into the water. Animals can get trapped in the trash and suffocate to death. The trash can disable the animals. In a way, throwing trash into the water is like committing animal murder.Oil spills also create massive water pollution. Oil spills are a lot worse than we think. They cause animals to die and require a lot of time and work to clean up.Water pollution is a very serious threat to our future. It destroys environments and creates other problems for our planet. If water pollution doesn’t stop, it may get worse. Air pollution is another important issue. The moment you step out of the house and are on the road you can actually see the air getting polluted; a cloud of smoke from the exhaust of a bus, car, or a scooter. Natural phenomena such as the eruption of a volcano and even someone smoking a cigarette can also cause air pollution. So what can you do? The task of cleaning up air pollution, though difficult, is not believed to be impossible. The shift to less polluting forms of power generation, such as solar energy, wind energy, geothermal, tidal can be used for controlling pollution.

Switch off the lights and fans each time you leave a room. During the day, use only the required number of lights. One of the first things you can start doing is to conserve energy. Walk or ride a bicycle to the market or to your friend’s house. Trees give out oxygen and take in carbon dioxide and thereby clean the air around us. It is therefore our duty to take care of them. Look after the trees in your neighborhood, along with your friends. Plant more trees and tend to them too.

Each of us must begin to accept personal responsibility for protection of environment and where necessary improvement of it.No one person can save entire world alone that’s why each of us must make positive steps in saving the environment, with which we have the direct connection. By doing what we can, in protecting and improving our environment we will help and improve the entire world.
