What are the advantages and disadvantages of having a computer?

In today’s fast-moving world computers became an essential part of our lives. It is believed that having a computer at work or home is necessity. However, there are people who claim that computers make our lives complicated. So what are the advantages and disadvantages of having a computer? One of the main advantages is the valuable time that can be saved when using computer at work. It is no matter where you live: in USA, Lithuania or even Mozambique, you can access the same information at the same time, because of the Internet. Moreover, people can find lots of great and useful information on the Internet. Another great advantage of computers is that you can store lots of information on computer disks. It is one of the most efficient ways of keeping data. However, there are various negative aspects of having a computer. Many jobs have been lost due to the fact that computers can do a lot of tasks more efficiently than humans. What is more, computers can actually cause health problems. There are lots of children that spend endless hours playing computer games. This leads to eyestrain and headaches, which are serious side effects. In my opinion, in the century of information, computers are necessity for us. Imagine this kind of situation. Your teacher asked you to write an essay on vanishing species. So you go to your local library, search for the information you need and then come back home with several books that weights heavy. Or you could just find the information you need on the Internet, download it straight to your computer and compose the essay. So what you would choose? Going to library and searching for information for hours or just find it fast on the Internet? To sum up all, I think that many people, also including me, would prefer computer instead of the traditional and non-effective way of work. After all, computers can make our work more effective and productive if we just use them wisely.
