Topic Education and languages

It’s common knowledge that in 21st century everyone tries to get as best education as it is possible. To begin with, knowing foreign languages broadens one’s outlook and develops mentality. The more languages we know the more intelligent we are. Furthermore, you can study or work abroad not facing the language barrier. We can travel abroad and communicate with other people easily witch gives us great satisfaction. As a result, you have better employment or learning opportunities abroad. To sum up, there are lot of reasons why people should learn foreign languages. First of all, nowadays pupils are learning English because some of them want to have further education in foreign countries, for example in England. It’s like some kind of prestige because a diploma or qualification opens doors to the best jobs in Britain or in other countries. In other words, public opinion thinks that finishing a foreign school or university can be even more challenging than finishing a simple state school. It would be interesting to note, that British and Lithuania education systems have lots of in common and in Lithuania you probably are able to get even better education. In both countries compulsory education lasts until the age of 16. Pupils can leave school having finished the tenth form. These pupils usually go to vocational junior colleges. The Curriculum is the group of subjects such as colloquial, mathematics, history and of special interests are science and foreign languages. It should be added, that in both countries students have to pass exams at the age of 16. In Britain it’s called GCSEs. If you want to have a higher education you can study at university. Students are able to receive grants from the government or take a loan. It is interesting to note that there is usually one important subject missing from most schools timetables. Very few students are taught how to organize their learning, and how to make the best of their time. Let’s take simple examples. Not everyone knows how to look up words in a dictionary and understand all the information the dictionary contains. Learning by heart can be useful, but is more important to have a genuine understanding of a subject. In Lithuania teachers only trie to maintain a main curriculum and keep everything in order. Different from Lithuania in England teacher have much more important characteristics of a good teacher like a sense of humor. Teachers show great enthusiasm for his or her subject and bring out the best in each student by giving students a sense of self-esteem.

In connection with this, motivation to learn the language and accomplish the task comes from the positive attitude. Speaking skills in a foreign language are learned by constant practicing and use. Homework helps students to see if they understood everything that teacher has said. People can improve their knowledge of foreign languages even discussing in a class. I shall conclude by saying that pupils should be able to choose the subjects they want to study and not have them imposed by teachers or educational authorities. Schools aren’t responsible for personal and moral development of student. Schools only must help you to decide on your priorities.
